The First Amendment written out of the Constitution by Dear Leader

Dear Leader, a.k.a Barack Obama, along with the rest of the Democratic Party appear poised to rewrite the Constitution in January.  We’ve already begun to get a preview of what free speech will look like under President Obama.

Most conservatives have already realized that Obama wants the United States to emulate the failed policies of Socialist Europe.  In fact, Mark Steyn lays out what free speech looks like in Europe and Canada in this month’s Imprimis.  Here are a few examples of the regulation of free speech and expression in those countries that Dear Leader wants us to be more like:

  • In response to the controversy over the publications of the so-called Mohamed cartoons, the European Union proposed that newspapers should exercise “prudence” in their relationship with Islam.
  • After pointing the contradictions between Islam and Western notions of liberty, many Muslim groups not only sued Oriana Fallaci, but demanded her criminal prosecution.  Likewise for Michel Louellebecq after publishing a work of FICTION.

While Mr. Steyn’s article deals almost exclusively with threat that Islam poses to Western civilization, two quotes really stood out as symbolic of the Left today.

… we see that today’s multicultural societies tolerate the explicitly intolerant and avowedly unicultural, while refusing to tolerate anyone pointing out that intolerance.

Our democratic governments today preside over multicultural societies that have less and less glue holding them together.  They’ve grown comfortable with the idea of the state as mediator between interest groups.

Taken together, we can surmise that in the battle amongst interest groups, European governments routinely see it as their duty to declare a “winner” in any particular conflict.

So it seems to be with today’s Democratic Party.  From the attempt to revive the Fairness Doctrine (which will only apply to conservative talk radio . . . and possibly the Internet, but not broadcast news, cable news, or the print media) to campaign finance legislation that has only one purpose: to stifle free speech.

In fact, Dear Leader has taken Democrats’ attempt to control speech to whole new level: the same level that Steyn just addressed, picking whose speech is allowed to be voiced.

Here is, I assume, a rather satirical comment from the Winds of Change blog:

Welcome to the party, pal.

This election cycle, we’re going to shout down our opposition – otherwise, they Swift-boat us with accusations that, while they have some merit, just don’t matter.

It’s Obama, or you’re a racist. If we find out that you were acting against Obama, or donating to McCain, or voting for McCain, then we’re going to try to get your fired from your job, or booted from your board, kicked out of our bar, and thrown out of the Democrat Party.

You’re not welcome.

Leave.

And say something nice about Obama on your way out, or we’ll key your car, spit on your kid, or have Bill Ayers pipe-bomb your kids day school.

Of course, Team Obama hasn’t been trying to shout down the opposition.  Not really!  Why do that when you can “turn them in” to the Justice Department for “prosectuion?”  After American Issues Project issued this ad:

Dear Leader responded by threats of intimidation and legal action.

(H/T Michelle Malkin)

he sought to block stations the commercial by warning station managers and asking the Justice Department to intervene. The campaign also planned to compel advertisers to pressure stations that continue to air the anti-Obama commercial.

He has “instructed” the Justice Department to prosecute American Issues Forum (there is no need to investigate since Dear Leader is never wrong) for violations of campaign finance and tax law.

This is all part of a larger strategy of intimidation sponsored by a Democratic attack group, Accountable America, which has launched an effort aimed at intimidating conservative donors.  The threats range from simple derision, to attempts to get the person fired, deny them work, and have them prosecuted by the Obama Justice Department come January 2009.

If this is Obama’s vision of the First Amendment, then please let me secede.  I will no longer to proud to call myself an American if this man is allowed to assume the Presidency.

P.S. to Dear Leader:  I await my reassignment to the concentration camp at Gitmo with baited breath.

Fannie Mae bailout helps Chinese, hurts taxpayers

I was not surprised to learn that the Democratic Congress, led by Mad Madam Mim and her loyal henchman, Steny Hoyer, bailed out the two largest mortgage brokers in the country last week.

To discover, courtesy of the Washington Business Journal, that good ol’ boy Steny has received almost $8,500 in campaign contributions from Fannie Mae is unsurprising either.

Nor is it a shock to learn that ordinary Americans will continue to suffer from high gas prices and the mortgage industries’ bad business practices, while the Democrats protect their own.

But, to learn that Fannie and Freddie were bailed out, according to the Wall Street Journal, after considerable pressure was applied by the Chinese government, which demanded payment in full of the nearly half-trillion dollars in Fannie bonds that they hold, is inexcusable.

Last time I checked, Mr. Hoyer worked for us, the American people, not the Chinese government or Fannie Mae.

This week Mr. Hoyer begins his vacation. Perhaps we’ll see him on the golf course with the Chinese ambassador? Say hi for me if you do. I won’t be there since I have to work to feed my family.

Thanks, Steny.
